Netbooks are a mini portable low powered laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet. Netbooks rely heavily on the internet for remote access to web based applications hence sales are targeted toward cloud computing uses. In cloud computing there is no need for high powered computers as software and applications are accesses via the internet. There has been more than a dozen new models come onto the market.

The Asus EE PC was the one that started the the new paradigm of Netbooks.
The small computer is characterised as having a low-powered x86-compatible processor (compatible with PC standard software), small screen (no larger than 10 inches) and usually a small keyboard, equipped with wireless connectivity. It is lightweight (under three pounds/1.3 kilograms). Netbooks are typically low cost, relative to other notebooks. Today there’s an overwhelming array of low-cost but highly portable and efficient little laptops.

Nearly all of the computers offer several USB ports, a webcam, LED backlit screens, integrated speakers, Wi-Fi and more, so there are very few differentiators. The choices available to you in market can be overwhelming.
Some of the more popular models include: The original Asus Eee PC offers a simple and effective custom Xandros Linux build, but supports and offers Windows XP as well. Early models use Intel’s Celeron CPU but Asus is transitioning to the newer Intel Atom, which is becoming the de facto netbook standard. Expect to pay between $299 and $599 from this line.
HP Mini-Note is an impressive computer and is the one non-Intel netbook available, the VIA C7-M processor handles most tasks reasonably well. The Mini-Note comes in a single size but you can configure the hard drive capacity, processor speed, memory and operating system. The HP has a higher resolution screen. Current prices range between $499 and $829 for HP Netbooks.
